There are ways to fast and there are ways to ruin a fast.  Here are 21 ways to sabotage a fast. Hopefully, you’ll learn what not to do in order to have a successful fast.

The Battle of the Foods

1. Go grocery shopping just before the fast begins and buy and store your favorite food(s) to remind you what you will be rewarded with at the end of the fast.

2. Throw a party. People will bring goodies and you certainly wouldn’t want to OFFEND them by not eating!

3. Accept invitations for a cup of coffee not tea at Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts or Krispy Kreme.  Don’t forget to pair that coffee with a nice dessert.

4. Bake yummy desserts for your friends.  The smells are absolutely divine!

5. Watch the Food Network.  Great time to get some new ideas, huh?

6. Copy those recipes you wanted for quite some time.  It]s amazing how much time is freed up when you are not eating.

7. Go out to dinner with your spouse or friends. You can just have water.

8. Make cookies with your kids. The perfect way to build memories, and don’t forget to taste the cookie dough.  Next to your kids, the best part about baking cookies.

9. Have home made food recipe facials. Try the sweet potato facial or the turkey fat moisturizer, an excellent combination with the sweet potato.

Married and Fasting

10. In the mornings, kiss your spouse before leaving, BUT hold it for at least 15 seconds.  It’s called preparation.

11. Caress or massage each other lovingly. This is the perfect time to work on your relationship with your spouse.

12. Romance your spouse with candles, incense, and soft music! Such ambiance is wonderful for prayer.

13. Snuggle under the blanket together; it is cold.  Nothing better than body heat.

14. Pour wine for two and have a bath together, sit by the fireplace, or whatever suits your fancy. The wine will refresh both of you and you will see each other anew.

Controlling Your Thoughts

15. Chew gum. This behavior mimics eating; it will help take your mind off of food.  I mean how long can anyone go without moving those jaws?

16. Go to the movies. A great way to pass the time and get your mind off of food. And the popcorn smells so delicious by the way.

17. Watch the evening news and focus on world events. This will surely create an atmosphere of gratitude.

18. Every morning buy the newspaper and read the obituary section. Life is beautiful!

19. Relax on the sofa and feed on movies or TV shows until bedtime. I mean how much praying can one really do?  Now I lay me down to sleep doesn’t last that long.

20. Catch up on the latest news from your friends. Then you’ll have more to add to your prayer list.

21. Concentrate ONLY on all the things you want to change and haven’t or can’t.
