When it comes to rest and aromatherapy, lavender is often the first essential oil that comes to mind. It is one of the most popular flowering plants grown in herb gardens due to its pleasing fragrance and abundant healing properties. The beneficial effects  of plant aromas, including those of lavender, have been known and used for thousands of years dating back to 1615. Lavender is known for its soothing and calming effects. The herb’s essential oil and aroma has a sedative effect that is linked to and promotes better sleep. It can also be used to help treat insomnia and mild anxiety.

Lavender aid Healing
In addition to the calming effects of lavender, it can also be used to remedy a myriad of different conditions. Consuming lavender internally can help treat headaches, irritability, and tuberculosis. When used externally, lavender can treat rheumatism, muscle pain, burns, cold sores, snake and insect bites, halitosis, sunburns, and other skin complaints. Whether used internally or externally, there is no doubt that the use of lavender can positively affect your health.

Lavender Remedies
Drinking lavender tea is an option used to aid sleep.  Simply steep two teaspoons of dried lavender flowers or one drop of lavender oil in one cup of boiling water to create a tea in order to calm, sooth, and aid in the treatment of insomnia. One cup of the tea should be consumed an hour before bedtime for the best results. The relaxing aroma of the lavender as well as the internal calming effects makes for the perfect mixture for inducing a relaxed state for sleep.

 Another method for using lavender to relax is adding several drops of lavender oil to warm bathwater. It reduces anxiety and soothes sore muscles. Also, adding 1 drop of lavender oil into body lotion and then applying the lotion before bed can take advantage of the rest inducing properties of the plant.
