The use of aromatherapy as a legitimate form of treatment for various ailments has recently come to be accepted by the medical as well as holistic communities. In recent years, research has revealed that certain smells have a significant effect in regards to the way we feel because smells and odors can impact the brain similarly to a drug or medication. Smelling aromatic floral fragrances, such as jasmine oil, increases beta waves creating a more alert and uplifted state. It is said to be one of the most effective aromatherapy treatments for combating depression and stimulating positive emotions.
Healing Properties
Jasmine is most commonly known as a natural mood enhancer. It can lift depression and relieve anxiety in many cases. Although this rare and expensive essential oil has gained popularity for its relaxing and mood altering properties, it is also effective in treating a myriad of other ailments such as eczema, rheumatism, ringworm, laryngitis, infections, fevers, menstrual cramps, and even stretch marks. Jasmine oil is also considered to be a natural fertility drug acting as an aphrodisiac for both men and women. It is also used to treat various uterine disorders and relax the uterus, creating an ideal environment for pregnancy.
Uses & Remedies
In order to experience the mood altering power of Jasmine, simply add the essential oil to your relaxing daily rituals such as baths and massages:
- Bath Oil: Add several drops of Jasmine oil into warm bath water to create a relaxing escape after a stressful day. It is sure to calm you and bring about a sense of delight.
- Lotion: Combine about ½ teaspoon Jasmine oil with any unscented moisturizing lotion and use the blend to rub into your body for a quick pick me up. This mixture can be used on the go or for a relaxing massage.
- Face Steam: The main healing properties of Jasmine lie in its aroma. In order to get the greatest impact, inhale it deeply in its strongest and most natural form. Add 8 tablespoons of jasmine oil to 1 quart boiling water in a glass bowl. After allowing it to steep for 10 minutes, cover your head over the bowl with a towel and breathe deeply. After a few minutes, you and your skin will feel revitalized.
You can even make your own Jasmine oil for use by soaking several jasmine flowers in a glass container of a carrier oil such as sunflower oil, jojoba oil, or even olive oil. Store this mixture in a cool place for a couple of days. The longer it soaks the better because its potency increases with time.
