Sometimes life bumps us around and causes us to become unhinged. And sometimes, in just the normal course of living, bits of us come loose. We discover we can’t perform the way we used to. Tasks that used to be a breeze are difficult. Inexplicably, we feel down. Relationships that brought us joy are now a bother. We wonder what life is all about. We’re out of synch, and we need to get our groove back. Actually, what we need is to be calibrated: we need to check the accuracy of what we are feeling, thinking or experiencing against what is ‘real’. And what is ‘real’ is God’s word and what He has said about our life.

There are times, too, when everything is going great for us, all of our dreams are coming true and life is unfolding better than we had planned it. Even at these times, we should want to know with certainty that the life we are enjoying is in step with God’s plan for us.

Calibrations is a collection of biblical reflections, hymns, and quotations that we can use to check and re-align our feelings, our thoughts and our behavior. No matter how our day is going, no matter how we are feeling, we should be guided daily by God’s reality. When we live according to His principles and promises, everything in our lives will fall into its rightful place.

1. I shall be still, and move at God’s pace, not my own (Psalm 46:10).

2. Whether I eat or drink or whatever I do, I will do it all for the glory of God (1 Corinthians 10:31).

3. I believe so that I may understand.

4. The world is in need of light. Go light your world.

5. No matter how much time may pass, the fact is God hears me and answers my requests. Just as He did for Abraham, Sarah, Zechariah, Hannah, and Paul, just to name a few.

6. Until you take yourself seriously, you can’t take God seriously. He came that you might have life.
