5 Reasons to Abandon the Self

5 Reasons to Abandon the Self

1. When the “I” is in God’s way.
2. When the “I” is all you can see.
3. When the “I” hurts your self esteem.
4. When the “I” takes center stage.
5. When the “I” forgets God’s love.

  1. please tell me what you mean by ‘abandon’, because I have never thought it is good or necessary to ignore or abandon the ‘self’. When ‘self’ is ‘misbehaving’ in the ways you’ve listed, we should follow David’s example in Psa. 42:5-11 & 43:5 and talk some sense into ‘self’. What do you think?

  2. I refer to “abandon” as denying the self as in Matthew 16:24. Too many times, I think, “the self” gets in the way of what God wants to do in our lives. Yes, I totally agree with you–sometimes we do need to speak some sense into “self” as David did in the scriptures you mentioned. But as in these scriptures the focus must be on God and the denying of self. God must always be our focus. His words should be our focus– His thoughts (His holy word)should eventually become our thoughts, permeating our minds–our lives.
